The historic Brandt House in Alma, Kansas, has reopened after decades of closure. Originally built in 1887, the limestone hotel has long been a downtown landmark. Co-owner Amanda Gnadt shared that it had been a hotel its entire life but had sat vacant since the 1980s until its grand reopening in 2025.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 14 drew community members eager to tour the seven-room hotel. Lt. Governor David Toland praised the reopening as a boost for local businesses, encouraging visitors to explore Alma’s shops and eateries.

The hotel holds special memories for former resident Doris Reamer, who lived there while working for the Goble family’s restaurant and hotel during high school.

With hopes of attracting more visitors to the Flint Hills, the Brandt House is set to offer a unique stay experience. Future plans include adding an in-house bar and restaurant, making it a central hub for both guests and the community.
