Flooring Surprise

Choosing flooring was the next big task at hand. Historically speaking, the hotel would have likely been hardwood everywhere. Our plan was hardwoods in the common spaces, think the check in area, guest lounge, bar, and restaurant. We planned on tile for all bathrooms (there are nine total), and a splash of tile in the guest lounge. We had decided the rooms would be carpet. We were choosing carpet for a couple of reasons, (1) we were being budget conscious and (2) most hotel rooms we see have carpet.

We headed out (with our mood board!) and visited several flooring stores. In fact, we picked up somewhere between seven and ten tile samples. We brought them back and laid them out. We took pictures, checked them at different times of the day (for lighting) and then settled on a black and white pattern that we loved.

Now that we had our tile selected, we were ready to tackle carpet. Priority was placed on durability, we wanted to be sure we picked a quality product. Again, we looked at a lot of options; carpet with purple, carpet with charcoal, patterns and solids, but we didn’t love anything. Price was a factor and as we narrowed our favorites the price was creeping up. We debated back and forth but couldn’t get settled. We agreed to take a few days away from the selection process.

When we reconvened with fresh eyes, we realized we didn’t really want carpet after all. As we thought about it, we realized we loved the idea of hardwood floors throughout the hotel. We called Nate, with Frontier Construction, and requested a change. He came back with updated pricing, and we decided hardwoods was the right choice for us. We are beyond excited to highlight our oak hardwood flooring when the hotel opens!
